Miches, on the northeast coast facing Samaná Bay, is the Dominican Republic's emerging resort frontier, anchored by the long, undeveloped arc of Playa Esmeralda. New upscale and all-inclusive resorts are arriving gradually, so it still feels far quieter than Punta Cana, about an hour and a half away by road via Uvero Alto.
